History of Texas Tank Car Works
James H. Green, Sr. founded Texas Tank Car Works in 1954. Located in San Angelo, Texas, it was the first independent contract railcar facility in the country. In 1990 facilities for another railcar facility were purchased just outside of La Grange, Texas and by the middle of 1991, limited operations had begun. In 1992 Texas Tank Car Works of La Grange was incorporated and later that same year received certification from the Association of American Railroads (AAR) as a Class B Tank Car facility.
Mr. Green presided as President over both Texas Tank Car Works, Inc. in San Angelo and Texas Tank Car Works of La Grange, Inc. and played an active part in the every day activities of both companies until he passed away in 1997, just after celebrating his 90th birthday. All who had come to know Mr. Green knew he wanted to be able to go to the office until the day he died, and he did. He had been to the office that morning.
Today, Texas Tank Car Works is one of the finest railcar facilities in the country. It is a full service railcar facility having met the requirements of the AAR's Quality Assurance Program as specified in M-1003 for Tank Car, Rule 88, and Heavy Freight Car Repairs. Texas Tank Car Works is proud of its reputation for quality workmanship, solid business ethics and dedication to the industry.
